Our Perfect Day
Since I am the Assistant Manager at The Cookery, my friends and family were shocked that I wanted to get married where I worked - but for Alex and I it was a no brainer. The Cookery checked all of our boxes. The Cookery has the sunny cobblestone garden that was the ideal setting for our ceremony and a stunning interior that spaciously fit our entire party. I know this venue inside and out (it's my job to), and knew that every detail, from the placement of the tables to the service at the bar, would be executed beautifully. The entire day went off without a hitch and I couldn't imagine it anywhere else!
Juli's Top 5 Wedding Tips
Tip #1: First Things First: Create a Guest List
Decide the people that are most important to you and who you want to share this joyous occasion with. By choosing how many people will be part of your celebration it helps with selecting all the other aspects of the day.
Tip #2: Hire a Wedding Planner
The absolute best gift you can give yourself is help. There is no gold medal for 'Bride Who Did the Most Work'. Enjoy the entire process of your wedding. By hiring a wedding planner you will have 75% less stress and they will catch details and cost breaks that you didn't even know were there. They will fight for you and make sure that you and your partner have the best wedding day.
Tip #3: Personalize Your Day
Have the entire day reflect your relationship by incorporating things you love into your celebration. Alex and I created hotel goodie bags for each of our guests that included products we love from Durham and personal items we knew our guests would appreciate. Each goodie bag had salty/sweet favor snacks, 1 can of Ponysaurus beer, 1 3oz jar of Big Spoon Roasters, map of downtown durham, Uber code, water bottle, gum, aspirin and tide to go.
Tip #4: Delegate. Delegate. Delegate.
Your wedding day is not just a special occasion for you and your partner, it is an incredibly exciting event for your family and friends as well. They want to be involved in making this day memorable. Asking your family, and friends, to help with tasks will allow them to add their own flare/skills into the day and takes something off your to-do list. Win-win.
Tip #5: Check Your Priorities
Just because something is 'traditional' or 'what everyone else is doing' does not mean that it's right for your wedding. Every wedding is unique to the couple. For us, our biggest priorities were the venue and the bar and we made sure both were top-notch.
