Required Rentals

American Party Rentals

The Cookery works with American Party Rentals in Durham, who offers countless color, style and texture options.

If you prefer not to work with American Party Rentals, you are more than welcome to rent linens and tableware from any other trusted linen rental company.

Linens & Tableware

Since our grounds are such a unique setting with countless built-in decor facets, you can keep your decor investments as minimal as you'd like! Linens play a principle role in your event's look and feel, and we love colors that complement the natural browns, jet blacks, and purple-hued grey walls of our space.

Dance Floor

Our polished concrete floor is not ideal for dancing, so if you are planning on having dancing at your event, we will need to install a dance floor for you.

Fortunately American Party Rentals has dance floors that fit beautifully in our space! Dance floors are available for rent in 3’ x 3’ and 4' x 4' squares so the size can easily be altered depending on your dancing needs.

Here is what a 15' x 15' dance floor looks like in the Front Room:

Recommended Florist and Event Design

Flowers add color and beauty to any event! We recommend the following local florists:

Since The Cookery has a unique style on it's own, you can dress up the grounds as much or as little as you would like!  Arrangements in apothecary bottles give tables an eclectic flair, and mercury glass vases always complement the room well. Larger bouquets set in tall vases give the room added height and drama, and seasonal wreaths can hang from the mezzanine.

Remember that your florist can rent you tea lights, floating candles, lanterns and other non-floral items to complement any event, and can set up the room according to your layout preferences!

Decor Embellishments

We love these vendors that add a little extra sparkle to your day!

  • Statement lighting, backdrops, & lighted signs from Get Lit Event Lighting

  • Lantern chandelier from Tre Bella Floral

  • Ceremony Archway from Numious Steel, a local scuplture company that has custom and rental options for ceremony archways. They are a lovely addition to a ceremony!

  • Farm & Filigree has lovely wine barrels that not only enhance the decor, but can also be used as cocktail tables.

Chalk Board Display

Our magnetic chalk board in the Front Room is a perfect place for a grand display! We have seen lots of creative uses from magnetic art to banners to custom chalk artwork.

The dimensions for this space is 6ft 8in tall and 8ft wide. If you would like to create your own custom chalk work we require you use the “Zig Posterman Wet-Wipe” marker. You can buy this marker from us for $12. We have a ladder on-site that can be retrieved for you by asking your event captain day-of.

Chalk Art Recommendation:
Marika Wendelken is a local artist who transforms our stainless steel boards into beautiful pieces of artwork. Marika also creates seating charts, food station signage, and permanent signage and artwork for you to keep!

Mason Dixon Designs offers a multitude of services - from pointed pen calligraphy to mirror calligraphy, from graphic design to event design. They can assist you through every step of your event, from save-the-dates through thank-you notes, and everything in between.

Filled and Flooded specializes in hand-lettered and custom designed signage for weddings and other special events.

Tap Snap:  TapSnap is not your average photo booth - connect your photos with your social media apps, have custom digital props, and more!

While a friend or family member can provide an iPod playlist over our A/V system, our system is unfortunately not great for dance parties - it does not get very loud because it is built for presentations and toasts. A DJ or band will pace your event and initiate transitions such as when it is time to eat, toasts, and time to dance, and can adjust the energy level and atmosphere based on the event's needs in real time.

For Bands: They do not need a stage. They have access to 3 independent 20watt amps in the Front Room. If they need more power, they need to bring their own extension cords and gaff tape (duct tape, painters tape, etc. are NOT allowed and will cause damage to our floors that you will be responsible for). They may park their vehicle in the back of the Duke Center for Child and Family Health parking lot, as there are lots of spaces and not parking closer gives event guests closer parking.

Below is a breakdown of the A/V for each room of The Cookery.

  • Front Room: in-house speakers with AUX cord for background/cocktail hour music. Note: These are not made for loud tunes nor do they produce enough volume for dancing. We have a wireless microphone, mic stand, and 15’ diagonal HD projector screen available for your use.

  • Courtyard: Two speakers are mounted in the courtyard that are part of the Front Room sound system. Note: These do not connect to the Ballroom Sonos.

  • Ballroom: Sono Speakers are hidden in the four corners of the room and are great for dinner background music. You will simply need to download the Sonos App (on your phone or tablet) and be on The Cookery’s wifi in order to access our Sonos System.

  • Garden: There are no outlets or any provided sound system. We highly recommend APR for a rental system, or speak with your DJ or band on providing a small set-up. The nearest outlet is just inside the dressing suite (simply run a cord under the garage door) to play music during your ceremony. Note: you may need an extension cord!
